Abstract
Ecuador's medical system does not currently have a comprehensive information system that health personnel can access to view patients' updated medical records. In this sense, a case study of SIIME (Sistema Información Integral Médico Ecuatoriano) was carried out in order to determine the scope of an automation process in the health sector. Although this proposal is not new, it provides important information for its analysis, since it makes it possible to identify the advantages that ICTs offer in business management. In order to achieve the proposed objective, a descriptive qualitative methodology was applied to analyze technical data on information management systems and their impact on the medical organizational structure. As a result, a description was obtained of an engineering process that developed the Ecuadorian Integral Medical Information System that integrated academia, science and society, in order to seek solutions that provide an improvement in the recording of patient diagnosis, disease prevention and greater administrative efficiency.
