Abstract
This article provides a comprehensive review of the state of art on methodologies applied to the conception and development of serious games. It also explores innovative approaches for crafting these educational tools, emphasizing both their design and pedagogical adaptation. Furthermore, this review incorporates contemplating the gray literature to gauge the impact of terminology use within the research. The state-of-the-art review process follows the Multivocal Literature Review (MLR) format, analyzing articles and publications related to the focus of study. The article presents the research inquiries, outlines inclusion and exclusion criteria, and elucidates the material selection process. The results of this review reflect a bias in the use of methodologies for the design and development of serious games, especially the incorporation of the pedagogical side. The exposed references propose methodologies using existing ones in a hybrid user-centered model.
