Abstract
The present investigation that has as its theme "Automatic thoughts and self-esteem of adolescents in a private school in the city of Quito in the year 2023", aims to identify if there is an influence of automatic thoughts on the self-esteem of adolescents; In the investigation, we worked with all the adolescents of the school, from the basic cycle and high school, there was a population of 75 participants. The research was carried out under the scientific method, quantitative, descriptive, non-experimental cross-sectional designs were used. Within the data collection instruments used were: "Inventory of automatic thoughts (Ruíz and Lujan)" which evaluates 15 types of automatic thoughts in addition to using a scoring method from 0 to 4 giving a score of 0 = I never think that 1= Sometimes I think about it, 2= I think about it quite often 3= I think about it very often and "SELF-ESTEEM: by Rosenberg" has an assessment of the "Self-esteem" variable at the metric level, which can then be subdivided into ranges of score. It consists of 10 sections, with 4 response options each. It was found that there is a predominance in the participants presenting a level of medium and low self-esteem; On the other hand, in terms of automatic thoughts, a greater number of students who present the type of thinking called "Reward Fallacy", "Emotional Reasoning" and "Catastrophic Vision" were determined. It is concluded that there is no significant correlation between the variables mentioned.
