Abstract

This article aims to analyse the influence of gender in education through the contribution of the principle of solidarity; it attempts to demonstrate whether this principle contributes positively or negatively to gender equity. This study uses a quantitative methodology. Among the techniques employed is the survey, which allows for the identification of the main risk factors that emerge. On the other hand, it is based on the theological method: observe and judge, which makes it possible to identify the problem around the gender category, giving guidelines for possible solutions in the light of the Church's magisterium. This article articulates the contributions of great thinkers, scientists and theologians who have contributed to the topic; above all, Pope Francis has been taken into account, who in his encyclical Laudato Sí emphasises the importance of solidarity in connection with gender relations: "male and female he created them". This paper presents statistics from the survey applied to university students with results and interpretations that contribute to the researched topic. It is concluded that the principle of solidarity has a positive influence on academic performance at university because of its great contribution of dignity, love, a look of equals, two way treatment and a sense of communion.
