Abstract
This research makes an exhaustive description of the presence of the popular and solidarity economy in Cayambe, Ecuador. To this end, this qualitatively focused case study presents the entities and lines of action as variables that will be studied in depth through the collection of documentation from local and regional institutions, in addition to the involvement of participant observation for more than 25 years in this context. The results show that although the savings and credit cooperatives, associative entities and solidarity entities are established in the development of the popular and solidarity economy, the opposite is true for the communal savings banks and popular economic units. As for the second variable, the lines of action are organized into technical-practical and political-social, which respectively promote the technological development of the community accompanied by empowerment. In conclusion, this study seeks to promote the follow-up of cases where the approach of the popular and solidarity economy with the communities and its prospective settlement in the community can be evidenced.
