Communication Experts’ Perspective on Esports

Abstract

This chapter discusses 50 in-depth interviews with communication experts from all over the world who were consulted on Esports. Experts were considered to be people from higher education institutions who have been analyzing communication for more than ten years. The compendium resulting from the interviews search to issue a clear and defined order on the union of the sports with the media, demonstrating the ways of connection between both, the theoretical and practical dimensions, the forms of media evaluation, the transmedia indicators of the Esports and their expectations on the sports determined from the communication spectrum. Methodology: Exploratory analysis. This study considers the opinions of media and communication experts about Esports through semi-structured interviews. Key findings: The interviews with the experts demonstrates the different links between communication and Esports. As a preview, hypothetically there could be a connection in the speeches, live transmission, media impact, among others.
