Optimal Direct Power Control (ODPC) Model using ATPDraw and MODELS

Resumen

This paper presents the model of an Optimal Direct Power Controller developed using ATPDraw and MODELS tools. This controller is capable of connecting power from a DC source to an electrical network of any frequency and voltage. Active and reactive power control is obtained by optimizing the space vector applied by the grid-connected inverter through a resistiveinductive RL filter. This model is useful for studies of alternative energy source generation systems (WECS or PV), coupled to the power network. The optimal DPC control is implemented using the MODELS tool, included in EMTP-ATP and ATPDraw. In this program, the space voltage vector to be produced by the inverter is selected to obtain the smallest quadratic error between the active and reactive power references and the powers injected to the grid. The space vector voltage is calculated at each switching instant, defined by the operating frequency of the inverter bridge. The results obtained with this controller show an almost instantaneous response to variations of the reference power and the implementation of this strategy in ATPDraw and MODELS allow the use of these tools in detailed studies of alternate renewable power systems.
