Implementation and validation of IED settings in the IEEE 14-Bus System

Resumen

The article presents and validates a methodology for the parameterization of overcurrent and distance IEDs implemented in four transmission lines of the IEEE 14-bus system. Through simulation in PowerFactory, the pick-up settings and response times for each IED were made and validated. To corroborate the proposed settings, these settings were loaded with real IEDs from the protection laboratory. Finally, the short circuit values were injected using the CMC356 voltage and current injection equipment. The response times of the overcurrent and distance protection functions obtained in simulation have a correlation between 2% and 5% compared to the response times of the real IED and that seen by the CMC356 test set.
