Abstract
The journalistic work of the digital media capitalized on the information generated from the events that arose in the protests of October 2019 in Ecuador, two antagonistic narratives were built as the mobilizations grew. On the one hand, the government accused the demonstrators of wanting to destabilize democracy and that allies of Correismo were plotting a coup; while from the indigenous movement they argued that the mobilizations were not only trying to reject the decree that eliminated the fuel subsidy, but that it was part of a social process of class struggle. In this polarized media scenario exacerbated by fake news, memes and other decontextualized or mutilated information, the need to generate informative spaces es- tablished from the academy is analyzed, as is the Virtual Media Center (InDi), of the Communication career of The Salesian Polytechnic University of Quito, decides to venture from the figure of digital media to carry out the journalistic coverage of this conjunctural fact. Thus, a team made up of 29 people, including students and teachers, worked on the generation of content for 7 days, producing 231 videos 308 (84 live broadcasts and 147 audiovisual productions), with the aim of providing information outside the framework proposed by the government or social movements. This work tries to account for whether this academic space ma- nages to get out of the proposed framework or ends up being an echo of the established narratives.
