Abstract
This work presents the proposal of a protocol for the acquisition of electroencephalogram (EEG) signals for the development of a Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) based on Action Observation (AO) and kinesthetic motor imagery (KMI) for the neurorehabilitation of patients with Stroke (CVA). The protocol takes into account physical rehabilitation, an active hand orthosis (OMA), an EEG signal acquisition platform, and a cap with EEG electrodes located in specific regions of the brain to discriminate motor imagery (MI) tasks. The initial results of this research indicate that this protocol can be used for the neurorehabilitation of hand and finger movements in stroke patients. Preliminary EEG topographic maps related to hand postures (open or closed) are presented as results, generated from Power Spectral Density values in the mu (8-12 Hz), low beta (13-17 Hz), and high beta (18-24 Hz) bands of the brain signal. These maps allow differentiation of functional imagery related to both hand postures, which can benefit the neurorehabilitation of hand movements in individuals with stroke.
