Abstract
The emergency situation that is being experienced, in the face of the effects of COVID-19, has moved socioeconomic structures at a global level and higher education institutions were no exception. The measures of "social distancing" raised a context of forced digitization that, in the case of the Salesian Polytechnic University (UPS), resorted to the mechanisms of pedagogical practices from tele-education and/or telework to guarantee its operation and sustainability. According to Costa (2020), the coronavirus crisis is a health emergency caused by nature. However, managing the situation, from the first moments of the outbreak until it has become a pandemic, and all its consequences are the responsibility of human beings and of society as a whole, so that the virus will have its impact , but the handling of the virus crisis will have another and that communication is a powerful weapon if the correct processes are used, and for this it indicates certain roles of communication in crisis situations, such as: controlling the flow of information, involving everyone in productive tasks, fill the gap with useful information and avoid rumors, establish a continuous flow of information with the most critical and vulnerable sectors at that time and, finally, it is convenient to demonstrate commitment and reduce tension in the context of work .
