Abstract

The Magisterium of the Church, in recent times, has made very valuable pronouncements on women and their rights, as well as theological reflection; therefore, this article shows the evolution of the magisterium and theology on the rights of women and how it promotes their dignity. In fact, women in all times, and in a diversity of cultures, have lived dramas of exclusion and discriminatory treatment, as is confirmed by the present times in which they continue to be segregated to a second level with respect to the social participation achieved by men. Their decision-making power is limited as they are unable to occupy management positions, and their contributions, commitments and sacrifices in favor of society are not valued. Faced with this contradiction, the road has been long and their demands slow. But progress has been made, not only in the social field, but also in the experience of faith. For this reason, this article refers to the development and evolution of the time that has elapsed, and then looks at how the magisterium has embraced this process, especially feminist theology, which identifies with the requests of feminist movements. In this field, the contribution of Latin American theology is presented, with its own experiences and characteristics, which place its representatives among the researchers who make a significant contribution to the treatment of the feminine condition within the Church. A section is opened here to refer to the main events, institutions and figures that have intervened in the advances and setbacks evidenced by the role of women within the Church, and how these conceptions radiate in the social context and in feminist and non-feminist theology. The question to be answered is: What impact has the contribution of the Church's magisterium had in strengthening the recognition of women's rights? How is the contribution of feminist theology being received?.
