Abstract
Chapter IV, Contributions of Enlightenment thought and critical theory to the philosophy of educational innovation, written by Jefferson Alexander Moreno Guaicha and Alexis Alberto Mena Zamora, reflects on the contributions of enlightenment and critical theory to philosophy and educational innovation; it proposes to rethink education based on the new and emerging assumptions of the current era; it proposes a revaluation of critical reason and liberating social praxis as mechanisms to fulfill the purpose of education. From an exploratory systematic review, the authors of the chapter propose to develop three sections: in the first, they present the ideals of Enlightenment thought as a preliminary to a philosophy of educational innovation; they present different conceptions of progress and perfectibility based on some representatives of the Enlightenment movement and their implications in the educational field; they address the crisis of the classical ideals of the Enlightenment at the change of era; in the second, they explain the perspectives and questions of the Frankfurt School and critical theory in the face of the challenges of instrumental reason and the formative model of the neoliberal system; and, in the third, they set forth some proposals for educational innovation nourished by Enlightenment thought and critical theory with a view to achieving a humanistic and philosophical education.
