Abstract
This article reflects on the internet and social networks that have become catalysts for the circulation of false content, news and stories, a viralization that, for the most part, occurs in free and open access digital environments and platforms, which allows This type of information grows exponentially. Although the term fake news was popularized "in the Trump presidential campaign, Brexit and the plebiscite for the peace agreements in Colombia" it is not a new topic. In 1925, Harper's Magazine published an article about the dangers of fake news. Today, two-thirds of American adults get their news through social media. Likewise, a recent study found that fake news on Twitter was 70% more likely to be retweeted than true news (Nye, 2018, cited in Loor, 2019, p. 12). This makes fact-checking essential, as an alternative of digital media literacy in the verification of facts and data, which allows, in a certain way, to show the disinformation that responds to personal and collective interests. From this particularity, checkado. com was born in Argentina as a contribution to the verification of political discourse, in defense of the right to quality and verified information for public debate. Chequeado has been consolidated as a digital medium since October 2010, one year after the official registration of the Law on Audiovisual Communication Services1 promulgated by the government of Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, in the midst of a constant debate between a biased communication from the large power groups that direct the media systems and the need to have timely information, Julio Aranovich, Roberto Lugo and José Bekinschtein, consolidate the project.
