Abstract

The Salesian Polytechnic University, due to the fact that it is co-financed and receives funds from the State, is obliged to apply the quota policy by granting scholarships to students with limited economic resources who come from historically excluded groups. But beyond this legal framework, UPS, from its origins, has been promoting and supporting the education of young people from vulnerable groups and has done so inspired by its institutional mission. In this sense, the quota policy is yet another strategy that reinforces the multiplicity of inclusive programs and projects that UPS is implementing. This article presents the specific experience of accompanying the scholarship holders of the UPS-Quito quota policy. The first part mentions the background of what the PASUPCES is at the moment, followed by an explanation of the accompaniment process in its two fundamental components which are the administrative and the academic in Salesian style, then some statistical data are presented that show the impact on the continuity of studies and other important variables to be taken into account in the accompaniment process, then a descriptive analysis of the data is made but it is not passed to an interpretation of the data because this remains for future investigations in which a correlation of variables with the corresponding interpretation could be made, in the final part some conclusions are presented that in this case are assumed as challenges to be taken into account for the strengthening and consolidation of the headquarters in Quito. Marcelo Farfán sdb and Armando Romero -directors of the Pastoral Department, each one at the time-, the national coordinator of the PASUPCES: Ronald Carrillo, the headquarters coordinators: Eduardo Paucar and Father Hugo Montero, the team of advisors and tutors, and the interdisciplinary support of the various departments involved in the execution of the program.
