Description

General objective Evaluate the anthelmintic activity of essential oils from six plants present in Ecuador (maidenhair, guava, guaviduca, ishpingo, paico and sunfo), through in vitro tests and physical-chemical analysis, which allow determining their pharmacological potential. Justification In recent years, parasites have been among the leading causes of morbidity in Ecuador, especially in areas with limited resources and little or no access to basic services (INSPI, 2017). What causes a deficit of macro and micronutrients that are reflected in the patient's nutritional status, generating a serious problem that, if in development stages, retards their physical and intellectual growth (WHO, 2008). Therefore, the control of these is mainly with the use of anthelmintic drugs by people, in the face of repeated deworming with the same drug, the mostly susceptible population dies and in this way the resistant individuals survive, which has been triggered for them to acquire resistance to a large number of drugs becoming a state problem (Botero & Restrepo, 2012). Therefore, it is of the utmost importance to seek alternatives for the treatment of parasitic diseases such as the use of traditional medicine, as a way to substitute medications high-cost and potentially toxic synthetic drugs for drugs of natural origin (FAO, 2003). Taking into consideration the above, it is proposed to evaluate the in vitro anthelmintic activity of essential oils from plants: maidenhair (Eryngium foetidum L ), paico (Chenopodium ambrosioides), guava (Psidium guayava), guaviduca (Piper carpunya) and sunfo (Clinopodium nubigenum).
