Resumen

This chapter examines key issues concerning digital media and technology for communities in Latin America. It also situates the main themes of the book, which include decolonial approaches to communication and technology, digital structures and ontologies, territorial and embodied experiences, as well as forms of resistance to neoliberal models of media and communication. These include data activism, such as open source and autonomous mobile communication movements, translocal digital activism, cyberfeminist and Indigenous cosmovisions, collective journalistic practices, and sustainable approaches to communication. This chapter argues for the need to further develop decolonial, community, and collaborative approaches that address knowledge claims and power dynamics between technology developers, researchers, and activists in the reimagining and transforming processes for technology and communication networks.
