Introduction: Siparuna schimpffii Diels, popularly known as limoncillo, is a medicinal plant commonly used by the Shuar people of Ecuador for its analgesic properties. Objective: determine the chemical composition of the leaf essential oil of Siparuna schimpffii Diels (limoncillo). Methods: S. schimpffii Diels leaves were collected. Essential oil was obtained by steam current distillation. Molecules in the oil were identified by GC, GC-MS, IK estimation and NMR.Results: a total 57 components were found, and chemical determination of 41 of them (93.247 %) was performed. The structure of the most abundant component (germacrene D) was confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance. Conclusions: Sesquiterpenes predominate in the chemical composition of the oil. Among them the most outstanding are germacrene D: 35.338 %, bicyclogermacrene: 8.730 %, g muurulene: 7.035 %, germacrene B: 6.359 % and trans-cadine-1(2), 4-diene: 5.161 %.
