Abstract
What role did community radios have during the pandemic? The authors of this publication analyze the context and challenges of popular communication in Ecuador. The infodemic, the proliferation of fake news, the difficulties of the traditional media in reaching out with key information in the prevention of the disease reactivated the importance of community radios. Through them, in the most remote places, especially in rural areas, the population learned about the prevention measures, the calls for virus detection tests and even the deaths that occurred due to Covid-19 in their territories. Likewise, the radio has had a fundamental importance in the virtual modality of education during confinement.
