Abstract
This article presents the implementation of a SDR (Software Defined Radio) based GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) network prototype using Linux-based OpenBTS software and USRP hardware (Universal Software Radio Peripheral). GSM has been chosen as one of the most successful and impactful standards in the mobile ecosystem and base for future generations. By integrating GSM with SDR, it is possible to implement an experimental prototype of GSM network, which can become a test base for future innovations and developments in the SDR dynamics whose goal is to provide alternative mobile infrastructures for rural populations in Ecuador and the world that are part of the big digital divide.
