Abstract
The problem that motivates this investigative work is the verification that the study of the family and its civilizing role in society, from the human and behavioral sciences, is somewhat forgotten or at least neglected by academia and contemporary research. For years, it is common to hear in different social and academic spheres that the family is affected by a "deep crisis". It is because of this situation of structural crisis that the family could not fulfill a relevant role in the civilizing process of individuals and societies. What this crisis consists of and how the family could be a determining institution in the civilized evolution of contemporary societies, is a topic that has not been investigated and studied in depth these days. This is an aspect that is investigated and deepened in this research work with the hypothesis that the family of different times is reconfigured and adapts to the different social, educational, political and economic circumstances, but never loses its central role in the formation of citizens and societies.
