Abstract
Ecuador suffered severe economic inconveniences during 2016 due to the fall in the price of oil, the appreciation of the dollar, the payment to the US oil company Occidental (Oxy) and the earthquake of April 16 on the Coast. All this, added to the advent of the February 2017 presidential elections, decisively shaped the national political scenario and, specifically, a new stage in the persistent tensions and disagreements between the central government and various fractions of the indigenous organizations led by the Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador (CONAIE).
