Abstract

Since the first oil boom in Ecuador in the 1970s, oil sales have been the main source of income for the national economy. The main export destinations for Ecuadorian crude oil have been the United States, Chile, Peru, Japan, Panama, Spain, Guatemala and China. "The export of crude oil and its derivatives represent 54 % of total national exports, international sales that contribute and constitute income for the PGE3 in the order of 29 %" (Petroecuador, 2015, p. 61).
