Abstract
Diario El Universo, a traditional media evolving towards digital environments, studies the written press in Ecuador in the last twenty-five years, which has been part of a process of change, marked by the globalization of information technologies. The network of networks known as the Internet has modified the forms of access, consumption and habits of access to information content by audiences, being key to be present in cyberspace without abandoning the original format. El Universo newspaper is considered one of the pioneers in the country in terms of expansion of its physical media (paper) to digital media (web and social networks), as part of an experimental ecosystem of information that evolves according to the needs and behaviors of its readers. An evolutionary process of a traditional media requires a series of adjustments oriented to the application of changes from the editorial policy, treatment and structure of information, graphic line, use of media and new technologies for the development of information and processes of data contrast in the face of the immediacy of digital environments.
