Abstract
In Ecuador in recent years, a series of sanitary and phytosanitary regulations have been imposed, the application of which greatly affects peasant and artisanal production. This article reviews the origin of these regulations at the international level, which are strongly rooted in free trade rules, and whose objective is to strengthen the world agrifood system, displacing small-scale production. A brief analysis is made of the situation in Ecuador in this area, with special attention to dairy production.
