Abstract

This study combines a systematic review of scientific literature focused on practices, experiences and criteria of design and implementation of the hybrid teaching and learning modality, to propose a conceptual approach that minimally defines it, as well as to describe the main challenges that universities and faculty face for its effective implementation. At the same time, a descriptive study of the perceptions of a group of professors regarding the challenges defined and the way in which they have been addressed in this post-pandemic period by the institutions and in their own teaching practice is developed. The survey technique is applied to 53 professors who, from the areas of technical sciences of the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, and who have been working continuously since March 2020 to the present. In general terms, the professors assume that the challenges of the hybrid modality are being assumed positively and, at the same time, that this modality allows responding to the challenges of university education in the new post-pandemic normality.
