Abstract

This article presents the study of the energy demand of a series-parallel hybrid electric vehicle. The first stage of the experimental design consists of route planning based on the Real Driving Emissions (RDE) extension of the EURO 6 standard, which establishes the parameters to be considered for the design of the routes to reflect real driving conditions. The second stage involves the data acquisition of the hybrid vehicle following the previously established routes in the demographic area of the city of Cuenca. The third stage encompasses data processing, which is carried out using engineering software to filter the signals and minimize error in the analysis of the variables. The results presented the energy consumption of the hybrid vehicle on the two established routes, showing the differences in consumption considering the driving style on each route. Furthermore, the demographic conditions of the routes include inclines and flat stretches where the vehicle's speed and load constantly vary, thereby directly impacting the State of Charge (SOC), State of Health (SOH), and energy consumption. Considerable differences were recorded in the obtained values. In the RDE route in the urban area, the average consumption was 4.28 kWh, while in the random route in the urban area, the average consumption was 1.04 kWh. These results indicate that energy consumption is significantly higher on the RDE route compared to the random route under similar conditions.
