Abstract

This article describes the operation of the UPFC (Unified Power Flow Controller) devices belonging to the FACTS devices, in addition heuristic techniques such as Ant Colony Optimization and Genetic Algorithm are applied to optimize the operation of UPFC devices in the IEEE 14-bar test system with the DIgSILENT PowerFactory software, obtaining in steady state the optimal values of voltages to reduce the losses of active power and in dynamic state the optimal settings of its parameters in order to reduce the response time to a transient event, contributing favorably to the operation of the electrical power system.
