Reconstrucción del Paleoclima en la Cuenca Amazónica Basada en Espeleotemas y Proxies de Anillos de Árboles

Project Details

Description

General objective To carry out a Paleoclimate Reconstruction in Morona Santiago Province: Amazon Basin based on stalagmites and tree rings land proxies. Justification The short duration and scarcity of continuous instrumental climate records of longer than 30 years ago from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (INAMHI) makes the reconstruction of the past climate very limited in the country. Thereby, for enhancing and collecting climatic data the use of environmental proxies is indispensable and among them, the land proxies speleothems and trees rings are the most suitable due to its presence in the Amazon basin and accessibility. This information is valuable not only for Ecuador, but for all over the world, the knowledge of our past climate is the key to know the behavior of our present climate and its changes, and of the animal and botanical species into the Amazon.
