Resumen
Climate change has become a pressing global crisis, affecting ecosystems, public health, and economies. This increase in global warming is caused by human-made greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from burning fossil fuels, large-scale deforestation, rapid industrial growth in developing countries, and inadequate waste management. Clear impacts include higher global temperatures leading to extreme weather like heatwaves, storms, wildfires, ocean acidification harming marine life, increased air pollution affecting public health, and disruptions to education systems due to climate change. Current efforts to reduce emissions, such as carbon capture and storage (CCS) and switching to renewable energy, face cost, scale, and political challenges. Transitioning to renewable energy faces challenges related to cost, scale, and politics. Innovation is therefore crucial. Nano-metal oxide catalysts are a promising novel approach for climate solutions, offering unique properties such as a high surface area and enhanced reactivity. These advanced materials are utilized in significant areas, including the capture and conversion of CO2, the production of green hydrogen through water splitting, and the control of air pollution via photocatalysis. Utilizing these materials following green chemistry and nanotechnology principles enables the development of cleaner energy systems by enhancing reaction efficiency and reducing the environmental footprint of industries. Such innovations are crucial for speeding up the transition to carbon neutrality and promoting sustainable, circular economies.
