Resumen

The impact of the coronavirus pandemic on Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) around the world has been enormous, affecting all aspects of their operation, from the way they teach and learn to the adjustment of administrative processes. As we gradually move away from the crisis, it becomes clear that this unexpected event has brought about irreversible change. One of its main impacts has been the acceleration of the digital transformation of societies, in general, and HEIs, in particular. As our daily lives become a hybrid experience, mixing an online and physical presence, and as a new digital dimension of our citizenship emerges, education is bound to follow a similar direction. Consequently, HEIs are embarking on a complex transition that involves reengineering all their processes to take full advantage of the possibilities offered by digital technologies and artificial intelligence. This is especially visible in regards to teaching and learning practices. Forms of blended learning are becoming more widespread in the HEI sector, mixing online learning and face-to-face activities. This digital revolution in higher education aims to empower teachers and students, enabling them to build more flexible, personalized and effective approaches to teaching and learning.
