Resumen

Distance relay faces problems that affect impedance measurement, including the infeed effect on remote buses and mutual coupling of parallel lines. These effects may cause the distance protection to fail to distinguish the fault, or to detect it in other protection zones. The paper addresses techniques to adjust the distance relay for such effects, using protection zones 1 and 2, and a method to compensate for the effect of mutual coupling of parallel lines; different from the conventional technique is proposed. The suggested settings satisfy the predicted results in simulation and testing with the CMC 356 Omicron equipment.
