Optimum design and dimensioning model of a Mesh-WiFi network for emergency services in protected areas

Resumen

In the design of most of the networks, the deployment cost, coverage, interference and capacity are important parameters that must to be taken in count, at the moment of dimensioning a network. In this paper, we propose an optimum design and dimensioning model, that integrates WiFi and Wireless Mesh Network to satisfy the parameters mentioned above, and to provide emergency services, communication, and monitoring of environmental conditions in protected areas, where there are no telecommunication services. WiFi access points (APs), are deployed for the access to the network of common users such as cell phones, tablets or computers, while in the core and the edge of the network we use Mesh nodes to communicate the access points between them and to route the information, respectively. A comparison between a network without dimensioning and a network with the proposed and optimized model is shown in this paper. The proposed optimization model, applies linear programming (LP) to solve the different dimensioning problems.
