Optimal reconfiguration of electrical distribution networks due to the incorporation of home electrical chargers

Resumen

This work analyzes the impact of the load increase due to the eventual increase of electric vehicle home chargers on a real electrical distribution network. The impact that this new load produces on the network is evaluated and an optimization model is applied on its topology to improve the nodal voltage parameters and reduce power losses. An electrical network of an upper-middle class urbanization in the city of Guayaquil-Ecuador was studied, using real information provided by the local electric company such as electrical operating parameters and line impedances, power flow analysis is performed, observing power losses and voltage drops. Each year, the load is randomly increased and the behavior of the network is observed again in the same parameters. As demand increases, using an evolutionary algorithm, the electrical system is optimized and new voltage levels and loss levels are evaluated. The effects are studied using engineering software such as Matlab, Cyme and Excel. The load increase was applied considering the standard power ratings of internationally recognized electric vehicle chargers.
