Comparison of Photovoltaic Power Generation between Monofacial and Bifacial Panels

Producción científica: Capítulo del libro/informe/acta de congresoContribución de conferenciarevisión exhaustiva

Resumen

Currently there is a considered increase in the implementation of renewable energy generation, however about 79 % of the energy consumed in the world comes from fossil fuels according to reports of REN 21 in 2022, innovation and improvement of the components of photovoltaic systems has led to achieve better efficiencies in electricity generation becoming an alternative for systems in remote areas even in systems with grid connection, this research compares the energy performance between a widely used single-facial panel and a bifacial panel, the first produces 568.29 kWh cdot yr-1, while the second system generates 549.07 kWh cdot yr-1. Bifacial panels can provide a more economical option for grid-connected systems and depending on the location of the panels, additional to requiring less land area. Taking advantage of the albedo is fundamental to improving the performance of photovoltaic systems when the type of implementation allows it.
