Resumen

Reading is an important activity and in terms of technological development presents new alternatives to realize it. This paper proposes a pilot study deals with the analysis of EEG signals to determine the level of attention while reading using three formats and suggest the most appropriate. Print, PDF (PC) and portable Kindle device: Three reading formats were considered. During the development of a formative reading with five subjects, signals electroencephalographic (EEG) were acquired from the frontal, temporal, and occipital lobes left Parietal of the brain, using a 14 electrodes helmet (Emotiv EPOC). The signals were processed using MATLAB for the wave energy of each individual Beta and determine the degree of attention (increasing or decreasing) by linear approximation to the energy of the wave. The results are contrasted where it was evidenced that for three of the five subjects there is a coincidence between the highest index of attention registered with EEG and their preferred format. Therefore, a specific format cannot be considered as the most appropriate and allows greater attention in reading activities, why it is necessary to conduct a study with a larger sample.
