Resumen

In this investigation, the mechanical characterization of Polyether-ether-ketone (PEEK 450 Natural) was performed using additive manufacturing and tensile and compression tests following ASTM D638-14 and ASTM D695-15 standards, respectively. The three-dimensional design of the specimens was performed using CAD Inventor software. A post-processor was applied to generate the G-code containing the necessary information for additive manufacturing. In the 3D printing process, the fill density parameter was controlled, considering three configurations: 40%, 70%, and 100%, with a rectilinear pattern. Fill density is a relevant parameter in the manufacturing of devices for medical applications because it can affect osseointegration processes. The results obtained facilitate the analysis of maximum stress behavior based on the considered fill densities. That is, it is possible to evaluate which fill density is sufficient for specific medical devices that must withstand tensile and compressive loads.
