Abstract
The presence of women and their gender roles, both in the productive, reproductive and community fields, is not valued or recognized within the patriarchal structure; this is the transversal axis of discussion proposed in the text Women in the public sphere: An approach to the discourses of Ecuadorian society in the 21st century. The authors conclude that beyond the progress in laws, academic training and the achievement of economic independence, androcentrism in Ecuadorian society has not yet been overcome.
