Abstract
Since Ecuador was declared GMO-free, a very polarized debate has been unleashed in the country between those who defend this declaration and those who defend the application of biotechnology in agriculture. This debate has included different sectors of society, including academia, peasant and consumer organizations and the State itself. This article gathers the main narratives that have emerged around this issue, especially during the years when the President of the Republic called on society, especially academia, to pronounce itself on the subject.
