Abstract
During this year of pandemic caused by COVID-19, the need for communication and collaboration among scientists has become even more evident due to the fact that every minute lost is quantified in human lives. This need has been formalized in public calls from authorities, institutions and experts for information sharing as a strategy to confront the virus, leading to the materialization of innovative projects thanks to the use of digital technologies (El Comercio, 2020). This chapter presents an exploratory study on the use of one of these tools by scientists in Ecuador during the development of the pandemic. Through a virtual ethnographic study, the authors identify and classify the scientific production of Ecuadorian institutions of higher education on the ResearchGate platform, offering a perspective on the digital scholarship of Ecuadorian academia on the web.
