Abstract
The article explains how teachers use textbooks in curriculum development. The research reveals that in many institutions, textbooks have ceased to be a mere resource and have come to dictate teaching practices and student learning. The way textbooks are organized determines objectives, methodologies, activities, available resources, and even what should be assessed and how it should be assessed. The findings caution against placing educational resources as the sole organizer of teachers' work and curriculum development, since ultimately they are a teaching resource like any other used by teachers.
