Trends in IEEE Conferences Proceedings in Latin America: Number of Papers and its Citations

This work analyzes the trend in the number of publications and the ratio citations over publications for academic publications presented at the 13 IEEE conferences developed in Latin American countries up to middle of 2024. IEEE Xplore was used as the database to identify the conferences under study. The 13 conferences were located in three groups based on three levels of geographical areas intended to be covered driven by the name of each event. Group 1 is related to regional conferences, which are for specific IEEE societies; group 2 is for sub-regional conferences, it means covering a group of countries; and group 3 is for conferences intended for a specific country or section. The information obtained could be highly valuable for leaders in guiding the future directions and developments of conferences, as well as for organizers, general chairs and technical program chairs. Results show that each conference paper produces a considerable number of citations for up to five years. Additionally, it offers insights into the regional, sub-regional, and local capabilities for producing academic publications.
