Abstract
Trabajo docente en tiempos de crisis gathers the articles presented at the V National Seminar of the Latin American Network on Teaching Work -Ecuador chapter- held in Quito at the Universidad Politécnica Salesiana, in hybrid mode, from November 29 to December 1, 2022. The book brings together sixty-seven researchers, teachers, public officials and social leaders in education from four Latin American countries (Ecuador, Brazil, Mexico and Paraguay), who present the results of their studies and research in thirty academic papers. The book is organized in four central sections corresponding to the thematic axes of the event; Axis 1: Historical demands of social justice for education and the teaching profession; Axis 2: Gaps and challenges of the return to face-to-face teaching in the educational system; contributions, responses and innovations from educational institutions and teachers to support learning and the emotional and social well-being of students; Axis 3: Contributions, responses and innovations from educational institutions and teachers to support learning and the emotional and social well-being of students; Axis 4: Opportunities, limitations and threats for education and citizenship in the digital era. The publication is enriched with an initial section that presents three panoramic studies aimed at contextualizing and enriching the debates of the V Seminar: firstly, María Sol Villagómez, current vice-rector of the Salesian Polytechnic University, reconstructs the trajectory and achievements of the Teacher Work Network in Ecuador (2012-2023). Next, Dalila Andrade Oliveira, from Brazil, former coordinator of the Red Estrado (Red de Estudios sobre Trabajo Docente) Latin America, analyzes the problems of teaching work in times of pandemic, with the responses of governments, difficulties, lessons learned and perspectives. Finally, Carlos Crespo Burgos offers the tribute of the Red Estrado Ecuador to the master of Latin American education Paulo Freire, with a study on his legacy to face the global crisis of education. The multiple accounts, elaborated from different institutional spheres and social scenarios, show the impact produced by the context of the pandemic and post-pandemic in the worsening of social exclusion and educational inequalities at multiple levels and dimensions. The papers thus contribute to critically contextualize the official discourses or the versions disseminated by the mainstream media, which have attempted to “present quick, easy and urgent answers to complex problems”, as Dalila Andrade emphasized in the inaugural lecture. Comparative studies such as those of Magaly and Yuri Robalino raise the alert regarding the priority of meeting the needs of connectivity, internet, mobile telephony, equipment and access to digital resources in educational and also in the students' homes, and highlight the multiple faces of teaching conditions and work and their reinvention in contexts of crisis. Several works show the multiple.
