Abstract

This chapter starts by analyzing the characteristics of the current communication ecosystem in conjunction with the growth of pseudo-informative content and the absence of media competence of the audiences to face the post-truth scenario in which disinformation appears as structural in the subject relationship. -means, medium. Subsequently, it makes a detailed analysis of the theoretical typologies of fake news based on a critical review of the emerging academic literature in Google Scholar® from 2003 to 2017 (n= 34), identifying five epistemologies about them: satirical news, parody of news, news manufacturing, infopublicity and propaganda. The main conclusions emerge that there is no conceptual unanimity about fake news, although certain common elements do appear in all the typologies reviewed, such as their aesthetic, narrative elements and disinformation intentionality. Likewise, this research proposes an integrated concept of fake news, based on the common elements outlined above.
