Abstract
The aim of this article is to investigate the origin of vitalist thought related to the discovery of the idea of life (Dilthey), becoming a fundamental concept (Nietzsche) and becoming the radical reality (Ortega y Gasset). Ellacuría takes up the vitalist approach to propose that philosophical reflection be a way of life, that is, to dedicate oneself permanently to philosophizing based on the vital contact of man with things in order to give meaning to human life, since this is the radical reality. By means of a bibliographical-documentary review methodology, it is attempted to conclude that the philosophical concern for human life has been acquiring relevance at present in the face of its meaninglessness or absurdity as a consequence of the end of traditional metaphysics.
