Abstract
Suicide is a human and social phenomenon that presents multiple nuances and actors involved. In Ecuador, mainly in Quito, in the last decade there has been an increasing concern about suicides and suicide attempts, which are becoming more and more visible. In this text we present the contributions of the ethnographic method in the study of suicide cases in a population close to the city of Quito from the processual ritual analysis of Victor Turner. Although it has been a subject studied with greater emphasis by the disciplines of knowledge linked to the field of health, the Social Sciences and especially Anthropology are called to provide research contributions that draw attention to the diversity of meanings and social actors affected by this phenomenon.
