Abstract

The Salesian world is about to celebrate the Bicentenary of the birth of Don Bosco (1815-2015) and, in Ecuador, the commemoration of 125 years of uninterrupted Salesian presence (1888-2013) is imminent. Within this framework, the Salesian community wanted to document and analyse the meaning and relevance of its action from a socio-historical perspective in order to deepen reflection and spread the Salesian charism.

This book gathers the results of a research program on the following dimensions of the Salesian presence in the country: community development, social inclusion, childhood and adolescence: Salesian education, with emphasis on technical education: conformation of regional and local identities; Salesian missions, indigenous peoples and interculturality. This research was carried out by a team from the Salesian Polytechnic University of Ecuador made up of historians, anthropologists, sociologists and pedagogues.
