Abstract
This article reflects on the role of the museum as an institution that safeguards and preserves the vestiges of the past, whose function is configured as a structuring, conditioning and institutional axis of the views towards the social and collective memory of Latin American peoples. In this paper I argue how the museum constitutes a space that contributes to the reproduction and legitimization of ideas and ideologies rooted in the project of modernity/coloniality, and how it establishes visions of the past that exclude the histories and experiences of the "others".
