Abstract

The conservation, access, distribution, use and final disposal of water are constant concerns, especially in rural areas where indigenous and peasant communities have implemented their own forms of management and handling. The text shows how water generates power in community territories; describes how communities implement water source conservation strategies; examines water as a fundamental axis for community development; identifies the implementation of collective-community actions against neoliberalism and finally analyzes the problem of wastewater management. Water for People collects seven experiences from different sectors of the country. Three articles of research projects and four degree works by students of the Management for Sustainable Local Development career at the Salesian Polytechnic University that contribute to the analysis of community water management. We trust that this publication will feed the discussion on the defense of water, the concepts, methods and practices that make political ecology a particularly active and transcendent space in the life of peoples, indigenous and peasant communities, and society as a whole.
