Abstract

This paper analyzes the strategies developed in three medium-sized cities of Ecuador in order to progress to the National Plan for Good Living and the change in the production model, the basic guidelines policy of the government of Rafael Correa. From an analysis that combines statistical data and previous studies with fieldwork and in depth interviews the aim of this paper is to see how evolved the economy, politics and society of the three cities in recent years. The interest of these case studies is that these cities are dependent of mining and the primary sector, which makes them archetypal examples of the primary-export model that the Correa´s government wishes to overcome. The evidence found point to an insufficient coordination between the local and national scales and a small progress of these strategies.
